Lady Lions Suffer First Loss

Lady Lions Suffer First Loss

The Penn State DuBois Lady Lions volleyball team hosted the Butler County Community College Pioneers last night in front of a loud home crowd.  This game did not disappoint those in attendance in terms of excitement.

The Pioneers stole the first set from the Lady Lions, 25-23.  Even during this first set everyone in the gymnasium knew that this was going to be a tight game.  The Lady Lions took set two in a commanding way however, 25-11, and looked to take control of the match.  The Pioneers were not ready to give it up quite so easily though, as they made DuBois work for every point they would get.  The Lady Lions would again win the set, but it took a little extra, 26-24.

The Lady Lions tried their best to put the Pioneers away in the fourth set, but trailed the entire time, losing it, 25-22 to force a fifth and final set.

The home crowd was doing everything it could to help lift their Lady Lions.  DuBois took the lead early, but the Pioneers came storming back with momentum to take the fifth set, 15-13, and that would take the match.

Sophomore, Sydney Kaschalk led the way with kills for DuBois with 19.  Skylar Ceprish added 11 of her own, with Kyara Girvan and Nicolette Brossard adding 8 kills each.  Girvan also led the way for her team in digs with 18, and Ceprish added in 14.  Setter, Catherine Gregory set her team up nicely all night as she put up 48 assists.

This was DuBois first loss on the season to take them to a 3-1 record.  DuBois will go on the road Tuesday to start PSUAC conference play against Greater Allegheny.
