Baseball Advances To Next Round

The Penn State DuBois baseball team came into the PSUAC playoff tournament as the #1 seeded team in the west division.  They would have to face the #2 seeded team Mont Alto who DuBois defeated in the PSUAC Championship game last year.

DuBois ace, Taylor Boland who is undefeated on the year would get the start on the mound to face a team he pitched a complete game, 11 strikeout shut out against earlier in the year.

DuBois would have to face last years conference pitcher of the year from Mont Alto, but the DuBois bats were ready for the challenge.  DuBois would take the lead early in the 1st inning as Daniel Stauffer would reach 2nd as the lead off hitter.  Cole Breon would come in to courtesy run for Stauffer, and Cory Lehman would smash a double to score Breon for the first run of the game.

Through the next 3 innings it would be all defense for both teams as they 3 scoreless innings would have everyone in the stands on the edge of their seats in anticipation.  Finally, in the bottom of the 5th inning DuBois would get some insurance for Boland.  Thanks to a Tyler Yough single, a Bryce Dobson walk, and a Thayne Morgan fielders choice, DuBois would get 3 more runs to take a 4-0 lead.

Boland would hit some trouble in the top of the 6th, so Trevor Hanna would come in for relief to continue the shut out going.  In the top of the 7th, Stauffer would come in to close the game out from the mound as the 3 DuBois pitchers would combine for the shut out victory.

Lehman would have a day from the plate as he went 3 for 3 from the plate with 1 walk, and 1 RBI, and included 1 double.  Boland would pitch 6 and 1/3rd innings with 3 strikeouts.

DuBois will face PSU Brandywine next week at Showers Field at 1:45pm.  The USCAA World Series Bid Show will air at 6:15pm on the same night.
