DuBois Hits With Confidence

The Penn State DuBois baseball team hosted a double header tonight against the Houghton College Highlanders at Showers Field.  Morgan Bell got the start on the mound in game 1, and would go 4 innings, allowing only 1 run.

The game would go into extra innings as both teams would stay notched at 2 runs each from the 5th to the 10th inning.  Houghton would score 3 runs in the top of the 10th, but DuBois new they could put up more.  After Trevor Hanna scored off of a walk drawn by Logan Wagner, and Thayne Morgan would score Brandon Sicheri off of a fielder's choice, Daniel Stauffer took his turn at the plate.  Stauffer's base hit to the outfield would score Dylan Treaster and Morgan to win the game with a walk off single, 6-5.

Stauffer would go 3 for 6 in the first game, Hanna would go 2 for 4, and Braiden Blair would pick up the win with his 4 innings of relief work to finish the game.

Game 2 would give Mason Lieb the start from the mound, and the 2nd start of his young career.  Lieb would go 4 innings with 4 strikeouts.  During that time Houghton would put up 6 runs on DuBois, but DuBois would make a dent to keep it close.  In the bottom of the 2nd inning Logan Wagner would find the ball on his bat as he crushed it over the fence for a 3-run home run to score Tyler Yough and Tanner LaBenne.  In the bottom of the 5th DuBois would get a familiar flurry of runs as Stauffer and Yough would hit back to back home runs for second time this season.  Cole Breon would then double to score Colby Bodtorf, and tie the game at 6.

Trevor Hanna would take to the mound in relief of Lieb, and hold the Highlanders scoreless for the rest of the game.  In the bottom of the 6th inning the tie would be broken.  As Stauffer and Hanna waited patiently on the bases, Brett Beith would step in the box.  With 147 foot apex, Beith smashed a 3 run home run over the wall as DuBois would take the lead on the final score of the night.

Hanna would finish the game on the mound, and down the Highlanders in game 2, 9-6 to take the sweep of the day.

On top of the 4 home runs in the game, Yough would also hit a triple, and Hanna, Stauffer, and Breon would all hit for doubles.

DuBois will play next on Sunday at Showers Field when they will host Elmira College for an afternoon double header.
