Baseball Defeats Mid-Atlantic in First Round

Penn State DuBois took on Mid-Atlantic Christian University in the first round of the USCAA World Series this evening.  Brandon Orsich took the mound for the #2 seeded Lions to start the game.

DuBois went scoreless in the 1st inning, but it didn't take long to get on the board once Zane Morgan stepped to the plate in the 2nd inning.  Morgan crushed a single home run to get DuBois started offensively.  Orsich would keep Mid-Atlantic's bats quite, and the rest of the batting lineup would follow Morgan's lead.

In the 3rd inning Joseph Dipietro would get his turn and hammer a home run to add to the Lions lead.  In the 4th Morgan would get back up to the plate and in deja vue Morgan would crush another one over the wall.

Orsich would come out after 6 innings of work, allowing only 4 hits, and striking out 3.  Orsich would throw only 50 pitches to get the win.  DuBois would add another 6 runs on the 6th inning for insurance.

Samuel Cheng would come in for relief in the 7th, and would allow only 1 hit as he finished up the game for DuBois.

Morgan would go 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's on the night.  Dipietro would end with a 2 for 4 night and 2 RBI's.

DuBois advances to the 2nd round of the USCAA World Series to take on the Mississippi University for Women tomorrow at 3:00pm.
