PSUD Women Suffer First Conference Loss

Penn State DuBois Women (6-3) dropped their first conference game of the season to Penn State Beaver by the score of 71-58 Tuesday night. Coming into the game, PSUD was ranked 10th in the USCAA national rankings.

Beaver got off to a very fast start, jumping out to a 17-2 lead over DuBois in the first four minutes of the game. But PSUD composed itself and took control of the game and put together an even more impressive run prior to halftime. From midway through the first quarter until halftime, Penn State DuBois outscored Beaver 31-12 to take a 33-29 lead into the locker room.

With 1:55 left to go in the third quarter and the game tied 44-44, Beaver went on a six-point run to hold the lead 51-44 at the end of the quarter. "This was the pivotal quarter in the game. Both teams had big runs in the first half and then we ran into game altering foul trouble in the third quarter. Beaver went to the foul line eighteen times in the third quarter alone, while we only shot two free throws in the same timeframe," stated PSUD coach Pat Lewis. He added, "We had four girls in serious foul trouble after that and we were unable to put together another scoring run."

Kashius Harris (Beaver Falls) led three PSUD players in double figures with 13 points. Melody Young (Otto Eldred) and Hope Bridge (Punxsutawney) had 12 and 10 points respectively.

Penn State DuBois returns to action at home on Friday, December 9, 2016 in a game against Penn State Greater Allegheny at 6:00.
