PSUD Women Drop Decision to Butler CCC

Penn State DuBois Women's basketball team (2-6) dropped a 62-57 to Butler County Community College (5-3) on Tuesday night.  Both teams went on strong scoring runs in a game that was close the entire evening.

The Lady Lions came out hot from the outside by connecting on four "3's" in the first quarter to take a 21-20 first quarter lead.  Both teams exchanged baskets throughout the second quarter and went into the locker room tied at 34 a piece.

Turnovers and untimely fouls plagued PSUD in the last two minutes of the third quarter as the Butler Pioneers went on a 12-0 run to open a 56-42 lead at the end of three.  PSUD played a strong fourth quarter closing the gap by outscoring BCCC 15-4 closing the gap to make it a three-point game with 1:33 to go.  BCCC hit two foul shots late in the game to seal the win.

"Obviously we are disappointed that we lost tonight, but they are a good team.  They beat us at home 87-46 three weeks ago", stated PSUD Coach Pat Lewis.  "I think it shows what a vast improvement that we have made in the past month.  We have had the toughest schedule that any PSUD team has ever played and we are getting better by facing strong opponents."

The Lady Lions had two players reach double figures, led by Melody Young (Otto Eldred) 18 points and Kristy Hanes (Elk County) 12 points.  Kaelyn Gruver (Redbank Valley) hauled in 13 rebounds while Ashley Brown (Otto Eldred) handed out 5 assists to go along with 7 points.

PSUD returns to action with a 6:00 home conference game against Penn State Fayette Friday night.
