The Penn State DuBois baseball team hosted Elmira College in a double header this evening. Taylor Boland got the start for DuBois from the mound, and would throw 3 shutout innings, including 2 strikeouts.
Both teams would go scoreless through 3 innings before Elmira would get 2 across the plate to get the scoring started. Not to be out done, DuBois would score 2 of their own in the bottom of the 6th inning. A single by designated hitter Logan Wagner would bring both Tyler Yough and Tyler Herzing across the plate to tie the game.
On to extra innings as Cole Knable would take the mound in relief. Knable would throw 3 and 1/3rd innings to finish out the game for DuBois. With the score tied going into the bottom of the 9th inning, Gavin Zoelle would come to the plate with the bases loaded. A hard hit to the outfield would drop in to score Thayne Morgan from 3rd base that would win the game in walk off fashion, the 3rd this year for DuBois.
Game 2 would give Connor Cherry the ball to start the game. Again, scoreless through the first 3 innings, Elmira would score 1 in the 4th, 1 in the 5th, and 2 more in the 6th inning. DuBois would go on a run drought until finally in the bottom of the 7th when Dylan Treaster would knock a single to score pinch runner Logan Sell.
That would be the last run DuBois could muster for the game, and would go on to lose, 4-1. Treaster would go 2 for 3 from the plate, and Nick Cagliola would go 2 for 2 on the game.
DuBois will be back in action on Friday as they start conference play when they travel to PSU New Kensington.
