New Kensington, PA
The Penn State DuBois baseball team travelled to New Kensington today to play the first conference double header of the 2019 season. DuBois picked up right where they left off on Wednesday night against Butler County. Scoring 4 runs in the first 2 innings, DuBois bats took off and never looked back.
GAME ONE:
Hitting - Toner Corl (Central Mountain) led the way for PSU DuBois in game 1 with not only 3 hits, but 3 doubles. Those 3 doubles also led to 3 RBI's for Corl and his team, as well as Corl himself scoring 3 runs. Zane Morgan (Clearfield) and Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney) brought in 2 runs of their own on 2 hits apiece, including 1 double from Morgan, and 2 from Stouffer. DuBois had 17 total hits, and only struck out 1 time. Kyle Gill (Bald Eagle) and Shane Haberberger (St Mary's) each hit a home run to help their team to a 15-0 win.
Pitching – Brandon Orsich (Clearfield) picked up the win today in 3 innings, giving up 5 hits and striking out 3. Logan Johnson (Penns Valley) and Justin Orlowski (Grove City) each pitched 1 shutout inning on just 6 pitches each to hold New Kensington scoreless in game 1.
GAME TWO:
Hitting – Trevor Hanna (Central Mountain) and Lucas Burkett (Punxsutawney) each picked up 3 RBI's in the win in game 2. Burkett legged out 1 double, and Hanna hit a 3 run homer. Zane Morgan (Clearfield) and Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney) also had 1 home run each for the DuBois victory.
Pitching – Adam Armstrong (Bellefonte) picked up the win from the mound in 3 innings. Armstrong threw 56 pitches, gave up 1 run, 1 hit, and struck out 4 batters. Jake Sorbera (Clearfield) was the lone reliever of the game for DuBois as he worked 4 innings, giving up only 2 hits and 1 run. Sorbera threw 43 pitches and totaled 6 strikeouts on the day.
