Split with Mercyhurst NE

GAME 1

In the first home stand of the 2019 season the defending World Series Champions of Penn State DuBois hosted undefeated the Mercyhurst North East Saints.  Brandon Orsich(Clearfield) got the start on the mound for game 1. 

The Saints Padraig O'Shauhnessy to Orsich deep in the first inning to give an early lead to the Saints.  Then again in the 4th, Robert Korff hit a 2-run homer to open the lead to 3-0.  Finally, in the bottom of the 4th the Nittany Lions bats came to life.  Zane Morgan (Clearfield) scored off a single from Clayton Butler (Central Mountain), then Jesse Martin (West Branch) would find his way home thanks to an RBI single from Brandon Gettig (Bald Eagle).

Butler would get a big triple in the 5th to bring home both Martin and Jackson Frank (DuBois Central Catholic).  All the while the pitching from DuBois would keep the Saints quiet.  In the 6th, Toner Corl (Central Mountain) would single to bring in Gettig, and another big swing triple from Joey Dipietro (Punxsutawney) would score Corl to make the game 6-3 headed to the top of the 7th.

Corl would come in to save the game in the 7th after the Saints were able to tack on 1 more run.  Orsich pitched 4 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 home runs.  Thomas Plummer (Clarion) would face 3 batters on the day, while Adam Armstrong (Bellefonte) came in for 2 innings of relief, giving up only 2 hits before Corl came in for 2/3 of an inning to close it out.

Corl, Gettig, and Butler each ended the game with 2 hits apiece, with Butler driving in 3 runs in 3 at bats.

 

GAME 2

In game 2 of the doubleheader, Austin Amacher (Ridgway) got the start for the Lions.  The Saints bats were on fire this game as they would finish game 2 with 12 hits.  The lone run for DuBois came in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Trevor Hanna (Central Mountain) would score off of an error by the Saints 3rd baseman off of a hard grounder from Jonathan Thomas (Highlands).
