Volleyball Shows No Signs of Stopping

The Penn State DuBois Volleyball team travelled to Lemont Furnace, PA this weekend for a very busy PSUAC event.  They ladies had to play 4 PSUAC schools in 2 days, but Coach Alberts had his team ready for the challenge.

On Saturday DuBois started off the weekend event facing PSU Scranton.  DuBois saw some back and forth action after committing 8 serving errors for the game, but with Gracie Hamilton (Ulysses, PA) working for 13 digs she was able to help her team get the boost they needed defensively.  Allison Easton (Coudersport, PA) put down 12 hard kills from Alyssa Simbeck's (St Marys, PA) 10 assists to bring the offense to life, and Keara Shrefler (Kersey, PA) had an outstanding 6 service aces to put the game away for the DuBois Lady Lion, 3-0.

DuBois' next opponent of the day was PSU York.  DuBois was warmed up now, and unleashed on York.  Shrefler chimed in again with her serving abilities with another 5 service aces.  DuBois took a commanding lead and never looked back.  Shrefler and Easton both had double digit kills for the Lions with 12 and 11 respectively.  Setters Simbeck and Brittany English (Winburne, PA) finished the match with 11 assists a piece as DuBois would win the match, 3-0.

Sunday was a new day, but Coach Alberts wouldn't allow his team to lose focus on what they were there to accomplish.  The first match of the day was PSU Brandywine.  DuBois knew that they had to be on top of their game for this match, and they were just that.  Shrefler and Easton were at it again on the front line as they smashed down 38 kills between them for the match.  Those kills were highlighted by the Simbeck and English setting duo as they put up 35 assists between them.  English added another masterful DuBois serving performance with 6 service aces.  With 20 total kills by DuBois in the third set, DuBois would take the match, 3-0.

With one game remaining in the weekend event, Coach Alberts knew he really had to keep his team focused.  However, the nerves calmed quickly as they snatched their first set from PSU Lehigh Valley with a lop sided 25-5 score.  Shrefler again would show why she was last season's Newcomer of the Year in the PSUAC by putting away 20 kills, and adding another 2 service aces to take her team to another 3-0 match victory.  Simbeck and English kept doing what they do, and had 13 and 14 assists each, respectively.

Coach Alberts was pleased of the 4-0 weekend performance by his Lady Lions, and even more happy with the 9 game winning streak that they are on.

DuBois will be travelling to PSU Beaver on Wednesday evening to see if they can keep the winning streak alive.
