Another Well Fought Weekend for DuBois

Another Well Fought Weekend for DuBois

The Penn State DuBois volleyball team had yet another tough weekend in the 2018 season.  They started by traveling to PSUAC rival Fayette on Saturday for a tri-match against Kent St.-Tuscarawas, and Penn State Fayette.

The first set against Fayette started the way it always does, and ended the way it always does, close.  DuBois and Fayette went back and forth with both teams playing defensively aggressive.  Fayette managed a few good hits, but DuBois remained true to Coach Alberts and never quite as they gained a few thunderous kills of their own.  The fight had to end with a set winner, and unfortunately that winner ended up being Fayette, 25-22.

The second set was a replay of the first as the teams battled at maximum strength, neither giving an inch to its opponent.  With DuBois slamming home some useful shots, Fayette would counter with a few good blocks, and dig themselves out as they went on to take the second set as well, 25-19.

DuBois still wouldn't go away as they poured everything they had in to the third set, knowing it was win or go home.  Coach Alberts did all he could to motivate his Lady Lions, and the team got a huge lift from a couple of back to back kills from Keara Schrefler and Allison Easton, as DuBois scratched to an overtime set victory, 26-24.

The fourth set saw DuBois grasping at straws as the only thing they had left was their defense.  Brittany English led the defensive effort with 15 digs, while Schrefler added in another 11 to try to slow the Fayette attack.  It ended up being to much for DuBois on this particular day, as they lost the fourth set, 25-14, and the match, 3-1.

DuBois would get a chance to reboot before they had to take on Kent St-Tuscarawas, and reboot they did.  They took out their frustration hard on Kent St, and wanted to end the day on a positive note, as they defeated Kent St in 3 sets (25-14, 25-6, 25-17).
