DuBois Opens Conference Play With Win

It was another edge of your seat kind of match for the DuBois Women's Volleyball team tonight as they played host to PSUAC opponent Beaver.  DuBois knew this was not going to be easy, but Coach Alberts also knew that his girls were prepared for this first conference game against a very solid Beaver team.

The first set saw DuBois take a commanding lead with some stellar offense from the front line.  They had some help from the DuBois crowd, and put down 12 kills to put Beaver down 25-13 in a quick first set.

Coach Bertges put a fire under her Beaver team however, and they came out in the second set to smack DuBois right back.  DuBois struggled defensively having 12 errors in the second set alone.  DuBois would struggle the entire set, and end up falling 25-14 to tie the match at 1-1.

The DuBois crowd got back into it, and so did the team as they continued their front line attack from Melody Young and Keara Schrefler.  Another performance of double-digit kills (13), and solid defense with 17 digs and only 3 errors took DuBois on another set victory, 25-12.

With the Pennsylvania humidity, and the sweat ridden floor, both teams pushed through to an exciting fourth set.  Both teams battled back and forth, both coaches having to take timeouts if for nothing more than a breather for their girls.  DuBois took an early lead, but Beaver wasn't going anywhere, as they kept keeping DuBois only a few frustration points away.  Finally, Coach Alberts team made a run with another power front line attack having double-digit kills yet again.  Schrefler led the attack with 5 kills, giving her a total of 13.  DuBois would go on to win the set (25-17), and take the match 3-1.

Melody Young added her own line with 9 kills and 11 digs, while Libero Gabrielle Wolff contributed 13 digs to help bring her team a conference victory.
