PSU DuBois Volleyball Team Set To Start the Season

The 2018 volleyball season is set to begin for the Lady Lions of Penn State DuBois, and they couldn't be more excited.  Last year saw the team compile a magnificent 20-6 overall record, a top 4 finish in the conference, and many honors to go along with their wins, but the Lady Lions want more from this year.  Although they are looking to this season with their eyes on the horizon, they still have the loss to the eventual PSUAC Champions in Brandywine looming in their memory.

Returning to lead this group is the 2017 PSUAC Coach of the Year, Dave Alberts.  Coach Alberts is very optimistic about his team this season, and is excited not only to watch his returning veteran lineup, but also a few of the key freshman and transfers that he picked up to help out the team this season.

2017 PSUAC Newcomer of the Year and 1st Team All-Conference, Keara Shrefler returns as the middle hitter for the Lady Lions after an outstanding season as outside hitter last year.  Last season Shrefler was second on the team in kills with 244, and tied for second on the team in digs with 230.  Schrefler also held the best hitting percentage in the entire PSUAC with a .430.

Another key returner for Coach Alberts is Senior standout, Melody Young.  Young led the conference in digs a year ago with 299.  She also was second in kills per set at 3.55, and second in total kills at 309.  Young was named to the PSUAC 2nd Team All-Conference last year, and is also changing positions this year from Middle Hitter to Outside Hitter.

Setter, Alyssa Simbeck also returns after having a great freshman year last season.  Simbeck led the PSUAC in assists per set with 8.23, and was selected as a USCAA All-American Honorable Mention recipient.

The teams first test is on Friday, August 31st when they take on host Butler County CC at 7:00pm.

This year's home matches will be live streamed on our athletics website, www.psuduboisathletics.com.  The Lady Lion's full schedule and roster is also available online.
