Record setting day for PSUD wrestlers at NCWA National Championships

PSU DuBois Wrestlers have record setting day

The wrestling team was reintroduced back to campus in 2009-10 and over that time the program has earned three NCWA All-Americans, time to add to that elite list.  Friday was a Big Day; Four PSUD wrestlers earned All-American status with their final placements to be determined today at the Allen Event Center in Allen TX.

Leading the way was senior 184 wrestler Logan Shirey (New Bethlehem,PA)- Shirey won his quarter final match 12-9 over Jonathan Wiley of Montana Western to advance to the semi-final where he lost be fall to Anthony McLaughlin US Air Force Prep.  He will wrestle 2 matches Saturday morning to determine his 3rd to 6th placing.

Also earning AA honors are Brett Himes (125), Ty Haines (157), and Dennis Lumadue (184).   Himes secured his AA staus with a 5-4 win over Jacob Michael of The Apprentice School, Haines with a 4-3 win over Brannon Warner of Bringham Young Univ, and Lumadue won 4 matches on Friday in the wrestle backs to become an All-American. Lumadue had 3 falls over Haggerty (Alfred State), Dionisotti (Northeastern Univ), Bambic (East Carolina) and injury default over Brian Campanale (Rutgers).  Himes, Haines, Lumadue will compete Saturday to determine their final placing from 3rd to 8th place.

Coaches Dave Hoare and Joe Shields have the team in 9th place heading into the final day of competition with the opportunity to get into the top 5 with a good round on Saturday morning.  PSU DuBois AD Ken Nellis commented "I am happy for the athletes and coaches who have prepared for months for this weekend.  The entire team are a good group of student/athletes and I am proud of their commitment to the sport and their academics."
