PSUD wrestlers place 5th in Ship Builders Invitational

Penn State DuBois wrestling has good showing at Shipbuilders Invitational

The PSU DuBois wrestling team got its first competition of the second semester at the Ship Builder Invitational, hosted by the Apprentice School in Norfolk, VA.   The PSU DuBois team finished in 5th out of 12 teams with 57.5 points.  The team champions were West Virginia Tech with 121.5 points; 2nd place went to Ferrum University with 119.5 points.

ON THE MAT:

133lbs – Brett Himes placed 6th

157lbs – Matt Humes was 6th place  with a 3- 3 record on the day

                 Jake Himes did not place but had a 2-2 record.

165lbs- - Ty Haines placed 4th; Ty was 3-2 on the day with both loses coming to Dirk Ponchak of WVU Tech.

174lbs – Joe Knarr placed 5th Joe was also 3-2 on the day.

184lbs – J. Prentice placed 3rd; J was 3-1 with his only loss coming to Spencer Buettner by the score of 3-2.  Buettner was champion at 184 and was selected by the coaches as Oustanding Wrestler of the tournament.

Bub Lumadue was 0-2 for the day

235lbs – Tim Suydan placed 4th with a 1 -2 record on the day.

Nate Rodgers placed 5th with 2-2 record on the day.

285lbs – Andrew Bigley placed 6th with a 2-3 record. Andrew lost by fall in the semi-final to Apprentice School's outstanding heavyweight Ian Jones.

Coaches Dave Hoare and Ken Nellis were pleased with how many of the PSUD wrestlers battled back through the consolation bracket, it was a good competition and gauge to see where the athletes are at in their conditioning and match preparation for the PSUAC championships coming up on Feb. 15th at Rec Hall.
