Penn State DuBois finishes in third place at NCWA-MEC National Wrestling Qualifier

Penn State DuBois wrestlers put together another good weekend on the mats at the NCWA Mid-East Conference qualifying tournament hosted at Penn College on Saturday.  Coach Matt Park will send 11 PSU DuBois wrestlers on to compete in the NCWA National Tournament, March 13-15 in Allen Texas at the Allen Event Center.

Leading the way for the PSU DuBois was junior Logan Shirey who won title at 184lbs.  Logan was 3-0 with 2 pins and a tough 4-3 win in the finals over Alec Warner of PSU Mont Alto.  Finishing 2nd were Austin Sheibley at 133lbs and Ryan Terwilliger at 174lbs; Sheibley dropped the decision by the score of 4-1 to Jimmy Hughes of PSU Mont Alto and Terwilliger lost 9-7 in overtime to Alex Amador of Lafayette College.

Other place winners for PSUD were 4th place – Brett Himes (125lbs), Tim Suydan (235), and Andrew Bigley (285).  5th place Matt Rivera (174), 7th place Jake Himes (157) and Nate Rodgers (197).  Receiving conference Wild Cards selections were Joe Knarr (165) and Michael Bonner (141).

The team title was won by Univ. Maryland-Baltimore County with 137 pts., PSU Mont Alto 129pts., PSU DuBois 106pts., West Chester Univ. 104pts. Univ. Pitt 93pts. round out the top 5 teams.

The PSU DuBois wrestlers will compete on March 13th in the NCWA National Championships in Allen, TX with 1st round of wrestling starting at 10am with a 42 man bracket.  Finals are slated for March 15th at 3pm followed by an All-American banquet at 7pm.  Last year Coach Park and assistant Josh Knapp had two wrestlers achieve All-American honors in Kasey Haines and Cliff Hill.
