Kasey Haines and Cliff Hill earn All-American honors

Kasey Haines and Cliff Hill earn All-American honors

Senior - Kasey Haines

March 16, 2013

Allen, Texas

Wrestling late into the evening Friday night was not an issue for either Kasey Haines or Cliff Hill, both wrestlers won their 3rd match of the day to put them in the top eight of their weight class in the NCWA National Championship.

Haines defeated Peter Crawford (Liberty) in the All-Amercan round 11-4 to earn the right to continue to wrestle for 3rd to 8th place at the 149lb. weight class.  Haines was in control from the start and wrestled an aggressive match in pursuit of making All-American.  In 2011 Haines lost in the All-American round and in 2012 was injured in the Mid-East qualifing tournament, so this was his last shot.  Haines will wrestle William Hodges from Texas State U. this morning.

Cliff Hill had a more exciting match Friday night, trailing Ben Hogan (Cincinnati) 8-2 in the second period when he used an upper body throw to put Hogan on his back and record the pin in 4:13.   Hill will wrestle Alex Giampapa (U Mass-Amherst) this morning.  Like Haines, Hill won his 3rd match in the consolation bracket to earn All-American honors.

Kasey Haines is a senior from New Bethlehem (Redbank Valley HS) and Cliff Hill is a sophomore where he attended Clearfield HS.  Both wrestlers will continue to wrestle for placement matches today, where the could place as high as third in their weight.

An exciting day for PS DuBois wrestling - having two wrestlers earn All-American honors, last year Chike Okolo was the first wrestler to earn AA honors.  This is an amazing accomplishment and tribute to the coaches for such a young program, DuBois is just completing it's 4th season since it reinstated wrestling to campus in 2010.
