Seven wrestlers alive in consolations bracket of NCWA National Championships

Coach Matt Park and his staff will send seven wrestlers into day two of the NCWA National Championships, all seven are in the consolation bracket facing elimination and fighting for All-American honors.

In the evening session in Allen, TX  PS DuBois had some very tough matches; a few they lost and also won several hard fought matches.

Wrestling in the championship bracket last night were 125lbs Landon Clayton losing by fall :038 to #2 seed Ben Smith (Marion Military). Landon will face Sean Kellett (UMBC) Friday morning.  149lbs. Kasey Haines lost by fall 2:52 to #3 seed Max Becks (Central Florida).  Kasey will wrestle Mike Shirmer (SUNY) in the consolation bracket.  197lbs Cliff Hill also lost by fall 5:11 to Jake Francis (Georgia) last night and will wrestle Michael Mahoney (TX-Austin).

The other competitors for DuBois: Shane Alterio 157lbs. received a forfeit win over C. Grillo (Central Florida) and will wrestle Eric Albers (Air Force Academy Prep).  Jake Himes 165lbs. decisioned Austin Clark (U.Penn)8-1 and will wrestle Frankie McKeown (Alabama).  174lbs. Ryan Terwilliger won by Tech Fall 18-0 over Vincente Vielma (Toledo) and has Steve Alfi (Central Washington) next.  184lbs. Stephen Terwilliger was eliminated from competition losing by fall 2:37 to Stefan Breitling (Amherst).  285lbs. Chris Minarchick won a hard fought decision over Elliot Noll (Mercer) 6-5 and will wrestle Rashied Rayford (Middle Tennessee State) on Friday morning.

DuBois is in 13th place as team after the first day of competition. The tournament started with 450 wrestlers representing 90 teams; all the competition is taking place on 8 mats. Friday session starts at 10 am CST.
