2013 – NCWA Wrestling Championship starts today in Allen, TX

The Penn State DuBois wrestlers arrived in Dallas Texas on Wednesday for preparation of the three day NCWA National Championships hosted just north of Dallas at the Allen Event Center in Allen, TX.   Head Coach Matt Park has 10 wrestlers competing in the national championship starting this morning at 10am CST.

First round match-ups for the PSU DuBois wrestlers are as follows:

125lbs.  Landon Clayton   vs.  Shane Shaffner  (Middle Tennessee)

133lbs.  Austin Sheibley  vs.  Zach Lebovic  ( North Florida)

141lbs.  Garrett Hildebrand  vs.  Jerrmiah Mack  (Sacramento)

149.lbs  Kasey Haines  vs.  Devin Patterson  (McKendree)

157lbs.  Shane Alterio  vs.  Alec Smith  (Cal-Baptist)

165lbs.  Jake Himes  vs. the winner of Devin Webster (Wichita State) or Tyler Miller (Cincinnati)

174lbs.  Ryen Terwilliger  vs.  Alex Lippmann (Florida)

184lbs.  Stephen Terwilliger  vs.  Jake Landais  (Lindenwood- St. Charles)

197lbs.  Cliff Hill  vs.  Tyrell Walker  (Central Florida)

285lbs.  Chris Minarchick  vs.  Juan Velasquez  SUNY- Stoney Brooke)

The tournament is a double elimination format and the top 8 finishers in each weight class will earn All-American honors.  PSU DuBois had their first NCWA All-American wrestler last year – Chike Okolo 8th place at 197lbs.

The tournament action can be followed www.ncwa.net .  There are 450 entries in the tournament representing 90 teams from across the nation.  Several past NCWA All-American winners in the event are now competing in the NCAA Div. I championships held in Des Moines, Iowa next week.  We wish the PSU DuBois wrestlers the best of luck in Texas.
