DuBois a Rare Loss at Home

DuBois a Rare Loss at Home

The PSU DuBois women's basketball team hosted Penn State Fayette tonight on the Penn State DuBois campus.  DuBois came into the game 2 games better in the conference at 4-2 than Fayette, 2-4.

Fayette came out with a tenacious, and overly aggressive press to start the game.  DuBois struggled early with it, and Fayette took advantage with a flurry of quick points off turnovers.  Coach Lewis called a timeout to calm his team down, and that worked for a while as DuBois was able to make it a game again.  The damage though was 11 turnovers in the first quarter by DuBois, so the hill was there to climb.  Fayette kept the press on to start the second quarter as well, but DuBois ran with them to start their own attack.

Kristen Williams (Sugar Grove, PA) got DuBois off and running with a corner 3 point shot, and the DuBois defense looked to slow down the bigs from Fayette.  It was one of those nights for the visitors though that every shot seemed to fall, and for DuBois the same wasn't coming true.

No quitting from a Coach Lewis team however, so DuBois kept coming.  Morgan Silvis (Tionesta, PA) hit a couple of field goals to get DuBois offense sparked back up, but the turnovers kept climbing as Fayette knew that they had to keep pressing.  Williams drilled another 3 from the wing, and Lauren Young (Bellefonte, PA) fought for every rebound, ending the half with 6 boards.

Fayette would go in to the locker room with a 52-26 lead.

DuBois was able to get their offense going a little bit more in the second half, and since they somewhat stopped the bigs from Fayette in the first half, they started to stop the 3 point shot more in the second half.  The only problem was that Fayette's guards would now push the ball inside.

Cierra O'Shell (Coalport, PA), the sophomore in her first game back of the season started heating up for DuBois as she went 4-7 in the second half.  Siteri Tale and Kaitlyn Riley were just too big tonight as they both found their way to over 20 point games for Fayette.  Tale also pulled down 16 rebounds in the process.

DuBois couldn't overcome the 20 first half turnovers even with winning the points game in both the 3rd and 4th quarters, and Fayette would go on to win the game 96-75.

Williams ended the night for DuBois with four 3-point field goals for her 12 points, and dished out a team high 4 assists.  Young finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds, and Silvis and O'Shell each ended the game with 10 points apiece.

The Lady Lions will be back in action on Friday at home when they host PSU Wilkes Barre.
