When you are on the road in conference play a 29-10 run to start the game is always helpful. The DuBois women's basketball team did just that on Friday night as they travelled to Penn State Schuylkill for their second conference game of the season.
The game started with a quick bucket from Kristen Williams (Sugar Grove, PA), and DuBois took control from there. DuBois got up 26 shots in the first quarter, and were able to pull down 6 offensive rebounds. Williams led the way in the first quarter for her team, as she led them with 7 points, 3 steals, and 2 assists to give DuBois a huge first quarter lift.
The tempo for the rest of the game was put into perspective for Schuylkill, as DuBois made sure they let everyone know who was in control this night. Maddie Sprankle (Johnstown, PA) started heating up as well to start the second quarter as she hit 2 quick 3 pointers in the first minute of the quarter. Coach Lewis wasn't about to let his team slack off though as he knew just how important it was to stay focused in conference contests. So, his girls kept playing the way DuBois plays, fast and tough.
The second half was no different for DuBois as they kept playing the same style that they know, and DuBois never looked back. Morgan Silvis (Tionesta, PA) would lead the unproportioned rebounding battle, finishing with 10 on the night for a game high. DuBois outrebounded Schuylkill, 51-28. DuBois held their opponents to just 27% shooting from the field, and forced 23 turnovers.
Eight out of the nine Lady Lions had at least 6 points in the game with three of them hitting double figures. Williams ended with 15 on the night, adding 7 assists, 4 steal, and 5 rebounds. Sprankle ended with a game high 18 points, including 4 for 9 from beyond the arc. Melody Young (Eldred, PA) would round out the top three with 16 points and 8 rebounds to help her DuBois team get their first conference win of the season, 88-39.
Schuylkill's Alyssa Gerber and Morgan Edge led their team with 15 and 12 point respectively.
