DuBois Lady Lions Improve to 3-0

The Penn State DuBois women's basketball team improved their record to (3-0) with a 74-63 win over Butler County Community College on Monday night. The PSUD squad has now won three games in a row to start off the season.

The Lady Lions used a strong defensive effort while they built a 31-19 halftime lead. DuBois had two players reach double figures in the game with senior Kristen Williams (Eisenhower) scoring a team high 18 points and junior Maddie Sprankle (Johnstown Christian) knocking down 16 points.

"This was by far and away our best defensive effort of the season so far. Butler has a very athletic forward that was leading the nation in the NJCAA at 38 ppg and 27 rpg. We held her well below her average tonight and just 2 points in the first half. Our girls did a great job of playing help-side defense and making them work for every point tonight," stated PSUD head coach Pat Lewis. "Our depth played a large role in our win tonight. Butler had a smaller roster and our girls were able to take advantage of that and keep an up-tempo pace all game."

Lauren Young (Bellefonte) hauled in a team high 10 rebounds and joined Hope Bridge (Punxsutawney) with 9 points. Melody Young (Otto Eldred) and Leah Lindemuth (Brockway) both hit for 8 points each. Adding to the win was Morgan Silvis (Forest Area) 4 points, Gracie Hamilton (Northern Potter) with 5 rebounds, freshman Makenzie Lukehart (Glendale) with 3 assists and 2 steals.

Lewis added, "Every girl on the team played a pivotal role in this win. We beat a good team tonight."

The Lady Lions return to action traveling to Buffalo, N.Y. to meet Villa Maria College, Friday, November 16, 2018. Game time is 7:00.
