PSUD Women Improve to 7-3

The Penn State DuBois Women basketball team head into the semester break with a PSUAC conference record of (3-1) and an over-all record of (7-3) after a strong win against conference rival Penn State Greater Allegheny by the score of 87-64.

Greater Allegheny jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the first two minutes before PSUD found the bottom of the net. But thanks to fifty percent shooting in the first half, DuBois had reclaimed the lead at the end of two quarters, by the score of 46-34. In the second half, PSUD continued to build on their lead by dominating the boards outrebound GA 57-36 and finished with an important PSUAC conference win at the end of the first semester.

"We have won three of our last four games and we have been playing with a lot of confidence this year. Every player is seeing a lot of minutes each game and everyone is playing a pivotal role in our success.", stated coach Pat Lewis. "We now have a three week break between semesters and hope to come back at full strength to put together a strong second half run."

Five players finished in double figures, led by Hope Bridge (Punxsutawney) 20 points. Others collecting double figures for the DuBois women were Melody Young (Otto Eldred) 14 points, Kristy Hanes (Elk County) 13 points, Kashius Harris (Beaver Falls) 10 points, and Kristen Williams (Eisenhower) 10 points.

Juli Vokes (Brockway) pulled down a team leading 10 rebounds while Ashley Brown (Otto Eldred) hauled in 7 rebounds and handed out 4 assists from the point guard position. Grace Earle (Cowanesque Valley) added 6 points and 5 rebounds to compliment another strong defensive game.

PSUD, currently ranked 10th in the USCAA National Coaches Poll, will return to action at Westmoreland on January 4, 2017. Game time will be 5:00.
