Penn State DuBois Lady Lions Open The Season With A Win

The Penn State DuBois Women's Basketball team (1-0) traveled to the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville and captured a 100-57 win this weekend.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 31-20 first quarter lead and built a 60-29 halftime lead heading into the locker room. "I felt that the girls really stepped it up defensively tonight and we controlled the tempo of the game by limiting our turnovers. The girls worked together and played as a team tonight and we shot very well from the field", stated DuBois coach Pat Lewis. He added, "Pitt-Titusville has a new coach and a new system that they are working on. They are rebuilding right now. They will be tougher when we play them in January."

The Lady Lions put six players in double figures led by Melody Young (Otto Eldred) 18 points and 10 rebounds, Kristen Williams (Eisenhower), Kashius Harris (Beaver Falls), and Hope Bridge (Punxsatawney) all registered 14 points, while Juli Vokes (Brockway) and Kaelyn Gruver (Redbank Valley) added 12 and 11 points respectively. Bridge also hauled in a team high 12 rebounds.

Also contributing in the win were Ashley Brown (Otto Eldred) 7 points and 6 assists while Kristy Hanes (Elk County Catholic) added 8 point and Grace Earle (Cowanesque Valley) 2 points and 3 rebounds.

The Lady Lions return to action as they travel to Butler County CC, Wednesday, November 9, 2016. Game time is 5:00.
