PSU DuBois Women Knock off Penn College in "Pink Zone' Game

The gymnasium was decorated with pink ribbons and signs in support of Breast Cancer Awarness, as the DuBois Lady Lions showed their pink color support of the "Pink Zone" games being held across the Penn State campus this semester.  The crowd was also into the "Pink Zone" as most wore pink shirts and several students were dressed head to toe in pink to support the cause and the team.

The Penn State DuBois Lady Lions (14-5, 9-2) moved back into first place in the PSUAC with their win over Penn College 69-55 on Saturday.   PSUD was led on offense by Tessa Vargas' (Sheffield) 23 points and 7 steals as well as Karlee Cyphert's (North Clarion) 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Although Penn College never held the lead, they remained within striking distance throughout the contest.  Persistent pressure by DuBois forced 25 turnovers and initiated 18 steals.  Solid ball handling by Karly Carnovale (Elk County Catholic, 6 rebounds) and Lynnie Schirmer (Clarion-Limestone, 7 points), kept the offense running smoothly for PSUD.  Kelsey Rini (East Forest) pulled down 13 rebounds and 8 points to lead the team off the glass.  Lauren Topolski (Cameron County) recorded 3 steals and 5 rebounds while Beth Pernesky (DuBois Central Catholic) had 2 assists and 2 rebounds.  Patience McCullough (Purchase Line) and Kyley Mickle (Port Allegany) combined for 10 rebounds and 17 points to contribute to the win.

The DuBois Lady Lions are currently ranked 16th in the USCAA national polls.  They return to action on Wednesday, February 8th as they travel to PSU Mont Alto.
