PSUD Lady Lions Pick Up Two Road Wins

The Penn State DuBois Lady Lions traveled to face eastern PSUAC members PSU Wilkes-Barre and PSU Hazelton this past weekend and improved their record to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

In Friday's game against Wilkes Barre, PSUD held a slim one point lead at half.  After being down by eight points, Tessa Vargas hit three 3 pointers in a one minute stretch to give DuBois the halftime lead.  In the second half, Karlee Cyphert nailed back to back threes to help secure the win.  Patience McCullough finished with a team high 10 rebounds in the 67-64 victory.

On Saturday, the DuBois Lady Lions collected yet another win when Lynnie Schirmer drove home a game winning three with just two seconds on the clock.  Trailing 54-52 with eleven seconds on the clock, Vargas traveled the length of the court and reversed the ball to Cyphert.  Cyphert in turn spotted an open Schirmer who knocked down her third "3" of the contest giving the PSUD women the 55-54 victory.  Tessa Vargas finished with 17 points and Patience McCullough had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Coach Lewis stated, "It is tough to win on the road in this conference, especially when you face well coached teams.  To come back with two wins this weekend was very big for us."  He added,  "All of our girls are playing well right now and we look to continue to work hard because we have a very difficult home stretch coming up."

The Lady Lions face PSU Greater Allegany on Wednesday, January 25 at home.  Game time is 6:00.
