Softball Gets the Season Started

The Penn State DuBois women's softball team finalized their first outing of the 2019 season this afternoon in Mississippi.  DuBois is on their annual spring trip to start the season, and played a double header today against the University of Mississippi for Women Wildcats.

DuBois had a slow go defensively throughout both games, but continued to get more confidence as the day wore on.  Freshman Lizzy Scott (West Branch) started the first game on the mound for DuBois.  Scott pitched a complete game in her first regular season collegiate start, allowing only 4 earned runs off of 7 hits.

The Wildcats held the Nittany Lions scoreless in the first contest, but not without getting more freshman involved for Coach Kern's Nittany Lion team.  Starting short stop, Skylar Ceprish (West Branch), and starting left fielder, Makenzie Lukehart (Glendale) were the lone hits of the game for DuBois, and Lukehart was also able to squeeze in a stolen base.

The NIttany Lions lost the first game 6-0, with opposing pitcher, Madison Scoggin getting the win with 11 strikeouts for the Wildcats.

Another freshman got the start from the mound in the second game for DuBois in Brooke Harvey (Northwest).  Harvey allowed only 5 earned runs while striking out 3.  Another freshman, Cayleigh Huffman (Cabot) found her way onto the bases twice with a walk, and a base hit single.

Ceprish, with her 2nd hit on the day had the teams only RBI as she was able to drive in Scott.  That would be the only run of the day for the Nittany Lions as they would fall in the 2nd outing as well, 11-1.
