Freshman Cross Country athlete Garrett Pensak competed in the (USCAA) United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships held at the Drumlins Golf Club – hosted by SUNY ESF in Syracuse, NY.  The race conditions in Syracuse on Friday afternoon were windy and wet with snow flurries flying throughout the race.

Garrett finished the 5 mile course in personal best time of 32:12; which was good enough for 86th place out of 183 male competitors.  Coach Kyle Gordon commented "I am very happy with the way Garrett ran today, to record his best time in these conditions tells you what type of competitor he is.  Garrett is a great young man and he will continue to improve at this distance as we work through the summer and prepare for the 2014 season".

Winning the team competition in the men's race was host SUNY ESF with 42 pts. 2nd place was Daemen College (Amherst, NY)47pts. 3rd Dine College (Tsaile, AZ).  Winning the men's race was Tim Callahan of SUNY ESF in a time of 27:30.  PSU Wilkes-Barre runner Jason Carey finished 3rd at 27:45.

The women's USCAA Cross Country Championships was won by Daemen College with 51pts followed by SUNY ESF, and University of Dallas.  Winning the women's 5K race was Elaine Lowe of Cleary University (Howell, MI) in 23:07.  PSU Schuylkill's Haylee Burnhauser earned 1st team USCAA All-American honors finishing in 7th place  24:58.

Coach Gordon looks to build his squad size for both the women's and men's teams next year and return to Syracuse with a stable of runners to represent the campus and the PSUAC.
