PSU DuBois Men Walk Away With Win on Road
The Penn State DuBois men's basketball team traveled to Hazleton on Saturday to face Penn State Hazleton (2-0 in conference). PSUD would secure a 72-61 road victory. For much of the first half the game remained a one or two possession score until the PSU Dubois bench sparked a run to give PSUD a small cushion. Started by a three point basket by Dakota Shadle (Galeton,Pa) as well as jumpers from Adam Szklanka (Dushore,Pa) and Nick Spitaliere (Long Island, Ny) PSUD was able to push the lead to 9 with 6:13 left in the half (30-21). With the clock running down in the first half, PSUD's Louie Conde knocked down a three from the top of the key making it 43-30 heading into the half.
To begin the second half, both teams went scoreless for the first two minutes. PSUD was able to hold Hazelton to only four points over the first five minutes of action. Kyle Mills (Bushkill,Pa) was able to sink two three's and a layup, Adam Szklanka added a three of his own to help PSUD grab a 20-point advantage 54-34 at the 14:22 mark.
Hazleton big man Jordan Singletary however would not let PSUD run away as he would score 12 points over the next 7 minutes to cut the PSUD lead to 7 (63-56). Singletary would also add 9 rebounds during the same time period, finishing the game with 21 points and 24 rebounds (13 Offensive). PSUD would answer with a run of their own lead by full court defensive pressure that would leak out two layups from Tristan Pierce (Lancaster, OH) and a layup by Sam Roselli (Ridgway, Pa). A three point basket from Pierce would push the lead back to 14 for PSUD as they would cruise to victory and get back to even in the PSUAC at 1-1, 5-2 overall.
Senior Kyle Mills lead PSUD with 22 points (6-13 from three), Junior Sam Roselli had 18 on 9-15 shooting, Sophomore Tristan Pierce had 9 points while adding 8 assists, and Senior Louie Conde added 7 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists of his own.
"I'm starting to sound like a broken record but it's true, as a team we really share the ball well. Tonight we had 30 baskets on 22 assists" Said head coach Dylan Howard. "We didn't rebound well tonight or get to the foul line as much as we are accustom too, but our defense created easy transition looks" also added Howard.
PSUD returns to action as they make the trip to Butler County Community College on Tuesday (December 8th, 2015). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00.
