PSU DuBois starts season with wild win on the road.
Wednesday night served as the scene for the start of the 2015-16 season for the PSUD Men's Basketball squad. As history dictated in the past, the atmosphere that is [Pitt Titusville] proved to be yet another test. PSU DuBois passed with a 107-104 victory.
PSU DuBois started the game strong on the defensive end which led to points in transition. Titusville revealed their full court press for most of the half however; it seemed to be no match for the Dubois squad. "it was important for us to control the tempo, I thought we did a good job of that in the first half," said Coach Howard. Outstanding plays at the guard position as well as inside the paint proved to be the reason of the success from the first half.
In the second half, PSU got off to another quick start pushing the lead to as many as 21 points. Pitt Titusville responded however with energy which caught DuBois off guard. Titusville chipped away at the lead with help on the defensive end as well as rebounding and sensational shooting from the arc. With less than ten minutes in the game, PSU DuBois found themselves up just single digits. Baskets were exchanged for what seemed like an eternity. "Late game defensive intensity, free throws, and overcoming adversity were the keys to winning this game tonight. We didn't control the tempo like we had in the first half, but a win is a win", Coach Howard stated.
Point guard Louie Conde went 20-21 from the free throw line finishing with 28 points and 9 rebounds. PSU DuBois went 12-19 from the arc with Tristan Pierce leading the way shooting 7-10 from distance. Pierce ended the night with 29 points and 8 rebounds. Other notable players were Sam Roselli and Kyle Mills scoring 16 and 22 respectively. DuBois opens their home court stand on Tuesday, November 10th, 2015 at 8:00 at the Multipurpose building on the PSU DuBois campus when they host Westmoreland County Community College.
