PSU DuBois Men escape with win at the buzzer

Jan. 22, 2013

Senior Woody Mitchell only scored 8 points on the night, but none were more crucial than a long 3 pointer at the buzzer to secure the 80-77 win over Penn State Fayette.  DuBois was leading 76-74 with 9.6 seconds on the clock when Mitchell missed both free throws; off the second miss Kashawn McLaughlin snagged the rebound and was filed immediately by Fayette. McLaughlin missed the first before connecting on the second free throw to set the score 77-74 in favor of DuBois.  Fayette quickly brought the ball up the court and James Pratt sank a 3 pointer from the top of the arch to tie the game at 77 with 2 seconds on the clock.  Looking like the teams were headed to overtime, DuBois called a timeout to set up a play, Coach Bennett got the ball into his best 3 point shooter and Mitchell drained the trey as the horn sounded.

Fayette was led by Brandon Cunningham with 27 points and James Pratt's 20.  DuBois countered with three players reaching double figures in Kai Ahmad's 21, Kashawn McLaughlin's 19, and John Hau scored 17 points.

DuBois record stands at 8-10 overall and 5-6 in the conference, with their next game on the road at PSU New Kensington on Thursday at 7pm.
