Penn State DuBois men's basketball set for USCAA Championship

March 6, 2012

Coach Dave Bennett packed up his team and assistant coaches and made the relatively short trip to Uniontown, PA where PSU Fayette will host the USCAA Women's & Men's Basketball Championships this week.  This is not unchartered territory for Coach Bennett's teams, they lost in the 2007 championships game in 2007 and placed 4th in 2010 at the USCAA Championships.

The tournament gets underway on Wednesday with three divisions being contested; the women's 16 team field, the men's Div. 1 tournament will have 8 teams, and the men's Div. 2 tournament will have 10 teams.  Each division will crown a champion on Saturday afternoon.

Penn State DuBois which is seeded 4th will play their first game on Thursday at 6pm against #5 seed Vermont Tech.  This will be a great game for DuBois, winning at this level is always a challenge, but DuBois will be without the services of leading scorer Chris Dickison.  Dickison will sit out the initial game to serve a 1 game suspension for receiving two technical fouls in the PSUAC title game against PSU Wilkes-Barre on February 25th.

Coach Bennett is confident that his team can adjust to not having Dickison for Thursday's game and slow down the scoring of Vermont Tech. with tenacious defense and quality minutes from the big men inside Will Welles and John Hau.

You can follow the all the USCAA basketball action by going to www.theuscaa.com and clicking on the championship tab, then men's Div. II basketball.  Box scores and game recaps will also be posted on the PSU DuBois athletic website www.psuduboisathletics.com .
