PSU DuBois Win was No Shot in the Dark

The Penn State DuBois Men's basketball team took on a skilled Penn State New Kensington team Saturday afternoon.  Early on DuBois struggled on defense allowing New Ken's perimeter shooters to knockdown open jumpers. New Kensington capitalized shooting 8-15 from 3 point land in the first half.  DuBois retaliated by feeding their big guys and playing inside the paint, for DuBois even a missed shot was a good one due to the offensive rebounding presence of Chris Dickison, John Hau, and Woody Mitchell. Late in the first half a New Kensington player literally shot the lights out. Following a shot from the corner he fell backwards into the light switch which knocked the lights out for approximately ten minutes. With 15.4 seconds remaining on the clock they broke for half time. Afterward the teams came out, finished the first half, and then moved on to the second half.

DuBois took control of the game early by penetrating the zone and finding open players for easy, uncontested shots. Again in this half PSUD's offensive rebounding was big, allowing for them to get second chances time and time again. Kai Ahmad and Derek Burdick did a good job getting DuBois out in transition leading to layups or setting up teammates for uncontested shots. The game was really won on the defensive end. In the second half PSUD did a better job finding New Kensington's shooters and making them shoot tough, contested shots. They also did a better job of containing penetration after being in foul trouble earlier. Chris Dickison, John Hau, and Woody Mitchell shined, even in the darkest of times. Dickison finished the game with 22 points and 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double.  Hau continues to play well with his tough, physical presence inside. He also added a double-double today scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. If the lights wouldn't have gone out already Woody Mitchell would have shot them out anyway. Woody was 6-13 from the 3 point line again continuing his impressive shooting finishing with a total of 24 points and also adding 9 rebounds of his own.

Penn State DuBois hopes for a big crowd on Tuesday night as they face their conference rivals from Penn State Beaver. Both teams have spent the past month ranked in the top 10 of the USCAA National Rankings; DuBois is ranked 5th in the USCAA Coaches Poll and Beaver holds down the 9^th spot. Tuesday night will be a "White Out" game.
