PSU DuBois Takes Fourth at the DuBois Collegiate Classic

The Penn State DuBois golf team accepted an invitation to play in a tournament that consisted of six NCAA Division III schools on Thursday.  PSUD was the only participant that was a non-DIII school but faired quite well by finishing in the middle of the pack with a fourth place finish in a seven team field.

Freshman, Mitchell Gilmore (Ridgway HS) led the PSUD team with an 84 on a par 72 course to earn a ninth place finish in medal play.  DuBois' Tyler Woodard (Smethport HS) carded an 86 for tenth place in individual scoring.  Vinnie Montanari (Redbank Valley) and Kristy Hanes were close behind, finishing tied for fourteenth with 88's.  The PSUD squad finished the day all with four players in the eighties.

"I am proud of the way our team played up a level today against some very talented golf programs, because we were only a few strokes from a second place finish" said Head Coach Pat Lewis.  He added, "A fourth place finish in a seven team field of DIII teams is a great accomplishment for a second year program.  However, I know that a few of the guys were very disappointed in their scores today, so hopefully we will get everyone back into the 70's and 80's next match".   PSUD finished with a team score of 346 and now have a conference record of (18-4-2) and (21-7-2) overall.

PSU DuBois' next action will be the PSUAC Conference Championship and the USCAA National Championship to be held at State College on October 12-14th.
