Penn State DuBois Takes First at the PSUD Invitational
The Penn State DuBois Golf Team played their second match of the season on Monday and produced a first place finish by capturing their own tournament in a field of seven teams. The second conference invitational was hosted by Penn State DuBois and was played at the DuBois Country Club in DuBois, PA. Once again, the weather was perfect for golf.
PSUD captured three of the top five spots producing the victory. Freshman, Mitchell Gilmore (Ridgway High School) led the PSUD team with a 79 on a par 71 course to earn medalist honors. DuBois' Kristie Hanes (Elk County Catholic) tied for second with an 80. Tyler Woodard (Smethport HS) was close behind and finished tied for fourth with an 83. Vinnie Montanari (Redbank Valley HS) posted a 95 to round out the team scoring. Justin Quiggle (St. Marys) carded a 98 and Justin Gumpf (Big Spring HS) topped off the PSUD scoring with a 100.
"It was as beautiful day for golf and I am proud of the way our team is coming around," said Head Coach Pat Lewis. He added, "A first place finish in a seven team field is a nice accomplishment after we tied for first place in the New Kensington tournament on Thursday. But I know that a few of our golfers were very disappointed in their scores today, so hopefully we will get everyone into the 70's and 80's next match". PSUD finished with a team score of 337 and now have a conference record of (11-1).
PSU DuBois' next match is September 18th at Valley Golf Course hosted by Penn State Schuylkill.
