Penn State DuBois Takes Third at the Penn State Mont Alto Tournament
Penn State DuBois Golf Team played their second match of their inaugural season on Wednesday and produced a third place finish in a field of nine teams made up of Penn State branch campuses. The second conference invitational was hosted by Penn State Mont Alto and was played at the Penn National Golf Course in Fayetteville, PA. Once again, the weather was perfect for golf, sunny skies and little wind.
Sophomore, John Kane (DuBois Area High School) led the PSUD team with an 82 on a par 72 course to earn a sixth place finish in medal play. DuBois' John Gaylor (Clearfield Area High School) and Tighe Truman (Brookville) were close behind, finishing tied for fourteenth with 85's. The PSUD squad finished the day with four players in the top half of the field of over fifty golfers. Owen Braun (Mechanicsburg) posted a 90 to finish out the team scoring. Derek Buganza (Brockway) carded a 92 and Vinnie Montanari (Redbank Valley) rounded out the PSUD scoring with a 95.
"It was as beautiful day for golf and I am proud of the way our team is coming around," said Head Coach Pat Lewis. He added, "A third place finish in a nine team field is a great accomplishment for a first year program. But I know that a few of the guys were very disappointed in their scores today, so hopefully we will get everyone back into the 70's and 80's next match". PSUD finished with a team score of 342 and now have a conference record of (8-2) and (9-2) overall.
PSU DuBois' next match is September 9th at White Deer Golf Course hosted by Penn College.
