DuBois, PA
Penn State DuBois baseball hosted Bryant & Stratton University (Albany) in a double header matchup today at Showers Field.
Game 1:
Hitting – A pitcher's duel to start the game, saw 6 scoreless innings before Bryant & Stratton struck first in the top of the 7th inning with a 4 run push. The bottom of the 7th inning had DuBois bats coming to life as well with a run scoring from a sacrifice RBI groundout by designated hitter, Joey Dipietro (Punxsutawney). That would be the 1 and only run for DuBois in the game, as they went on to lose, 4-1.
Pitching – Austin Amacher (Ridgway) got the start on the mound for DuBois, and what a start it was. Amacher went 6 scoreless innings, giving up only 3 hits. However, the 7th inning was the difference as Amacher started to tire, allowing 3 hits and 4 runs to score. A great outing by Amacher none the less with 4 strike outs on the day. Logan Johnson (Penns Valley) came in for 1 inning of relief for Amacher, allowing only 1 hit. DuBois would lose game 1 by the score of 4-1.
Game 2:
Hitting – A different story in game 2, DuBois bats were alive a bit earlier, and the run totals were stronger in both dugouts. DuBois would get 4 hits from second baseman, Brandon Gettig (Bald Eagle). Gettig, who leads the team in doubles with 10, legged out 2 of those hits for doubles in this game 2. John White (Warren), who is hitting a season average of .483 had 3 hits and a walk on the game as well. Freshman first baseman Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney) has been playing at a high level, and made his bat known to the opposition again today with 2 doubles on 2 hits, and added 2 RBI's.
Pitching – Freshman pitcher, Adam Armstrong (Bellefonte) got the start for DuBois, but would only go 2 innings of work as he allowed 4 runs on 5 hits. Thomas Plummer (Clarion) came into the game with a .96 era, but allowed 2 runs to score in his 2 innings of work as well. Plummer was able to earn 4 strikeouts in those innings before Stouffer would come in for 2 innings of relief work. Stouffer struck out 2 batters of the 10 he faced, and gave up 2 hits and 1 run. Senior Bryce Hanley would come in for the final inning with the score tied at 7, but with a fast ball down the middle of the plate, Marlinson Brunken from Bryant & Stratton would take him deep with a 2-run homer to take the lead.
Bryant & Stratton would go on to win game 2, 9-7.
