Another Mercyhurst NE Split

Another Mercyhurst NE Split

Another split with Mercyhurst NE brings the Penn State DuBois baseball team to 6-6.

GAME 1

Brandon Gettig (Bald Eagle), Thayne Morgan (Clearfield), and Zane Morgan (Clearfield) had 2 hits a-piece in the first game of the second double-header series.  However, despite the well placed hits, DuBios couldn't find enough offensive power to overcome the 11 hits that Mercyhurst NE would find.

Despite a good 3-1/3 outing from starting pitcher Morgan Bell (Somerset), Mercyhurst NE would go on to score 9 runs in the 7 inning game to take the win, 9-3.  Bell faced 18 batters, giving up only 3 hits and 2 runs.

GAME 2

Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney) would get the call to start game 2 of today's doubleheader.  With a solid 4-1/3 innings, Stouffer allowed 4 runs on 6 hits.  Bryce Hanley (Central Mountain) and Jake Sorbera (Clearfield) would come in the rest of the way to help out, giving up only 1 hit in the final 2-2/3 innings.

Gettig, Toner Corl (Central Mountain), and Clayton Butler (Central Mountain) would all add their support from the plate with 2 hits each.  Butler would also drive in 3 runs to help the cause.  Joey Dipietro (Punxsutawney) would find himself at the plate with 2 men on in the bottom of the 7th in a tie ball game.  Dipietro smacked a grounder right up the middle of the field to score the winning run with a walk off single as DuBois took the 2nd game, 5-4.

The Nittany Lions will host Butler County Community College on Wednesday night at Showers Field.
