PSUD stays alive at USCAA Small College World Series

Yesterday:

In Penn State's first game, DuBois kept grinding away to earn a victory. In their nightcap performance they learned all about what it means to be gutsy.

A clutch complete pitching outing from Alex Hart, a timely 2 run single from Zac Walsh, and a game saving diving catch from Clayton Butler pushed DuBois to a 3-2 win over Wright State. Hart went the distance striking out 9 to notch the win. In the 4th inning, PSU got the bats going capped off by Walsh's pinch hit single up the middle that put DuBois ahead by a lone run. In the 5th, Wright St threatened that lead when they drew a lead off walk. The next batter smashed a line drive to deep left field that initially looked like it would sail over Clayton Butler's head to score the runner from first, but Butler made other arrangements.

In what was worthy of a Sports Center Top Ten Highlight of the night, Butler sprinted back toward the wall and at the last possible minute he dove fully outstretched to steal the ball out of the air. The Wright St runner at first took off on the hit thinking it wouldn't be caught and was all the way to 3rd when the catch was made. Butler immediately fired a bullet to SS Caleb Butler who then relayed the throw to 1st that easily doubled up the runner. That would be the biggest threat for the rest of the game as Hart buckled down and retired the final 6 outs to seal the win.
